How to Care for Granite Countertops
Simple habits that protect natural stone without turning routine cleanup into a complicated process.

Granite is durable, but natural stone still benefits from the right routine. Gentle cleaning, quick spill response, and care appropriate to the selected slab will help the surface age well.
Use a simple daily cleaner
Wipe the countertop with a soft cloth, warm water, and a mild pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads and strong acidic or alkaline products unless the stone supplier specifically approves them.
Clean spills promptly
Oil, wine, citrus, and other strongly colored or acidic liquids should not sit on the surface. Blot the spill instead of spreading it, then clean the area with a product suitable for natural stone.
Ask about sealing
Granite porosity varies. Some slabs and finishes need sealing more often than others. Follow the fabricator or sealer manufacturer's guidance instead of assuming every granite countertop follows the same schedule.
Use cutting boards and trivets
Granite resists heat and scratching, but cutting directly on it can dull knives and damage surface treatments. Trivets also protect the countertop from thermal shock, residue, and hot cookware.
Do not guess at stain removal
Different stains require different treatments. If a mark remains after normal cleaning, identify the source and ask a stone professional before applying a homemade paste or aggressive chemical.
